The scientific engine behind 40 global brands

You won’t work in a silo here. You’ll join over 3,500 scientists working across 60 disciplines, merging advanced research, tech, and evaluation, Whether you are decoding the biology of ageing, engineering bio-based ingredients, or developing devices like the L’Oréal Professionnel Water Saver by Gjosa, the goal is the same: turning complex science into physical products used by billions of people. And with an annual investment of around €1.3 billion, you’ll have the resources to actually make it happen.

Your career in Research & Innovation

  • Microscopic view of mitochondria structure in cell
  • Advanced Research

You own the fundamental research phase. Your mission is to discover the biological and chemical secrets of skin and hair. From inventing new molecules and exploring the microbiome to pioneering Green Sciences, this is where it starts. Roles include Microbiologist, Green Chemistry Scientist, or Fundamental Science Researcher.

  • Lab worker reaching for bottles in research lab
  • Innovation Métiers & Product Development

You own the formula. Your job is to transform active ingredients, molecules and discoveries into physical textures and products across Skincare, Makeup, Haircare, and Fragrance. You will balance clinical efficacy, sensory experience, and sustainability. Roles include Formulation Chemist, Product Development Scientist, Texture Expert, or Raw Materials Specialist.

  • Two lab workers examining hair samples in lab
  • Evaluation Intelligence

You are the voice of the consumer inside the lab. Your mission is to ensure every claim we make is scientifically proven. You will design and manage clinical trials, consumer testing, and instrumental measurements. Roles include Clinical Evaluation Manager, Consumer Science Specialist, or Sensory Scientist.

  • Lab worker holding hair strand in research lab
  • Augmented Beauty & Tech

You will merge data, AI, and hardware with traditional science. Your team owns the development of diagnostic tools, smart devices, and virtual try-ons that personalize the beauty experience. Roles include Beauty Device Engineer, Data Scientist, or Digital Product Manager.

  • Lab worker holding sample and examining it closely
  • Safety, Regulations, Claims & Microbiology

You protect our innovations. Your mission is to ensure every product is absolutely safe and compliant before it ever reaches a consumer. This work spans Product Safety, Regulatory Affairs, and Intellectual Property. Roles include Toxicologist (Safety Assessor), Microbiologist or Regulatory Affairs Manager.

Your research
starts here

Founded by a chemist, science is our DNA. Today, you are joining a global community of +3 500 experts across 8 regional hubs. We operate with the agility of a startup, backed by the state-of-the-art equipment of an industry leader.

Here is how we work:

  • A "license to fail": We expect you to take risks and challenge assumptions. Not every hypothesis works the first time. That’s how disruptive progress happens.
  • Real responsibility from Day 1: You get the autonomy to co-design your career path and run your projects like your own business.
  • Radical diversity: With 85 nationalities working side-by-side, we repeatedly "take bets" on our people because different perspectives solve complex problems faster.
  • Science with a strict deadline: By 2030, 95% of our ingredients must be bio-sourced, mineral-derived, or circular. Sustainability is a daily technical constraint, not an afterthought.

What you build here won’t stay in the lab. You will harness collaborative innovation to turn raw data into physical products that impact billions of people.

The new era
of Green Sciences

We are moving beyond traditional chemistry to "de-fossilize" our supply chain. By 2030, 95% of our ingredients must be bio-sourced, mineral-derived, or circular. Sustainability isn't a marketing goal; it’s your scientific playground.

You will harness biotechnology and "micro-factories" to grow high-performance ingredients using 99% less water. You’ll design waterless eco-extraction processes. And you will use proprietary Life Cycle Analysis tools to assess a formula's exact water footprint and biodegradability before you even reach the lab bench.

Facts, not claims

1989

was the year we banned animal testing - 14 years ahead of regulation. To make this possible, we pioneered Episkin: reconstructed human skin that can actually tan, heal, and photoage.

725

patents in just one year (2025). Our patents span our entire ecosystem, from microbiome science and green extraction to AI-driven diagnostics.

20

years of research led to Melasyl™. Recognized by TIME as a Best Invention of 2025, this breakthrough molecule targets excess pigmentation safely and inclusively across all skin tones.

Our people, their stories

Imagine how exciting it can be to work on the claims and scientific communications of all L'Oréal skincare products!

L'Oréal gave me the opportunity to build a truly circular career path, working in almost all the R&I Entities from early advanced research to the investigative evaluation and the downstream product development.

Got questions? We have the answers

  • Forget "just making creams." We are reinventing 100 years of chemistry through Green Sciences. By 2030, 95% of our ingredients must be bio-based or mineral-derived. This isn't a marketing goal, it’s a strict technical constraint. You’ll be working on bio-fermentation, sustainable extraction, and circular formulations. The work is complex, highly technical, and genuinely disruptive.

  • In Big Tech, you optimise clicks. With us, you optimise physical reality. You will use AI to build digital skin twins, computer vision for diagnostic devices, and machine learning to predict formula stability before a single drop is mixed. Our data maturity is incredibly high because our numbers come from our own physical sensors and global labs, not just web traffic.

  • Actually, we operate like a federation of startups. If you have a strong scientific hypothesis, you are expected to back it, fight for it, and push it forward. We favour a "test and learn" mindset over lengthy, bureaucratic committees. Autonomy and momentum are non-negotiable here. If you need a detailed playbook for every step of your day, you will find the pace demanding.

  • Only if you love your job so much that you want to! A chemist here might move from Skincare to Hair Colour, or an analyst might step away from the bench to lead strategy in Open Innovation. Because we own the entire value chain, from early discovery all the way to the store shelf, your options to move across disciplines, brands, and borders are huge.
